This is a regular post where I grab a bunch of comics from my reading stack and rave and rant about them. This is also a labor of love for my daughter and I - to not only share a common interest but to also encourage her to read and write.

What's It About:
Millions are dying every minute - heroes and villains are powerless against the virus that has taken over the world. Humanity is lost and the goal shifts towards survival.
In this issue we finally find out what happens when Flash and Superman come head to head at full speed. Difficult decisions are made and we lose some legendary heroes.
There are some unlikely partnerships between villains and heroes which also makes the story very exciting.

2. Ghost Rider #1

What's It About:
Johnny Blaze is the king of hell!
The demons of hell are not happy and start jumping ship and venturing into Earth. Johnny has to clean up the mess and ventures into earth to bring everyone back.
In parallel, we see a miserable Danny Ketch who is not happy that he is also a Ghost Rider. He senses the rampaging demons in the City and decided to help Johnny kick some ghoul ass!
While Johnny is away the lords of hell will play! A takeover is coming so a lot happening in this issue.
What's Awesome:
3. Strange Skies Over East Berlin
Publisher: Boom!
Story: Jeff Loveness
Art: Evan Cagle
What's It About:
This comic throws the reader right into the middle of the Cold War as we see Herring, our main character, trying to smuggle people over the Berlin Wall.
During the attempt, we are witness to a huge meteor type event that creates mass hysteria throughout the intelligence and spy community.
Herring is quickly sent to investigate and infiltrate the enemy. He is able to locate a new weapon being utilized by the Soviets that could change the tides of the Cold War.
What he truly discovers is that no one is truly in control.
What's Awesome:
4. Resonant #1

What's It About:
The world has come to the end and the survivors have to deal with the threat of 'Waves'.
Tucked away in the woods we are introduced to Paxton and his children. Paxton has to leave his oasis and find medicine for his youngest son. With the family separated trouble ensues as Paxton finds challenges on the road and his young children try to cope with being alone.
During the separation, we encounter a wave which seems to impact an individuals mind. To what extent we don't really know.
What's Awesome:

- This has been a great series with a lot of gruesome deaths. The list of heroes that you witness dying is outstanding and grows every issue.
- From issues 1-5 the Mattina and horror movie variant covers have been fantastic.
What's Not Awesome:
- No lasting impact as this is not in continuity within the DC universe.
- Series coming to an end with issue #6
Overall:
If you love zombie survival books mixed in with superheroes then this is the series for you. All books seem affordable and the variant covers have been great.

What's Awesome:
- Cool concept of Johnny being the king of hell.
What's Not Awesome:
- The issue seemed rushed and a lot of content and ideas all running parallel, not a lot of time to develop a single idea.
- The whole Danny Ketch story was annoying as he was a very unlikable character. Is this how he always acts? You are a Ghost Rider deal with it!
- I wont be sticking with this title and prefer the craziness of Cosmic Ghost Rider.
Overall:
A decent comic book that Ghost Rider fans should enjoy. A good jumping on point for new readers but nothing special or memorable.

- X-Factor meets Cold War spy films. Very cool set-up and execution. Cool characters and initial world building.
- The art has a noir type of vibe that fist perfectly with the story.
- This continues a very impressive list of recent Boom books (Once and Future, Something is Killing the Childern, Bone Parrish).
What's Not Awesome:
- We don't learn anything about one of the main antagonists named Keiner - that may be the set-up in coming issues.
Overall:
Great concept and execution. For those that enjoy a good spy story this is certainly worth checking out. Can still be purchased at cover price.

- I am a sucker for these post apocalyptic stories. This has a good premise and you want to dive deeper into the waves and what they cause.
- Great homage cover to Y-The Last Man.
What's Not Awesome:
- Not a lot of character development or understanding of the world and limitations within the book. However, that may come in subsequent issues.
Overall:
Have been really impressed with the Vault lineup and this is another strong addition. The variant covers have all been great. Check this out if you enjoy end of the world stories.

5. Winter Soldier: The Bitter March #1

What's It About:
This is a little older and came out initially in 2014.
Seems like we have a Cold War/Spy theme in this posting. Nick Fury and agent Ran Shen are sent to on a mission to collect two scientists from the clutches of Hydra.
Agent Shen and Furry infiltrate a Hydra party. During the party Agent Shen is able to befriend a very attractive lady that turns out to have the ability to infiltrate you with worms!! It sounds gross but is actually a very cool twist to a very witty and funny book.
The agents are able to save the scientist but in the process they unleash the wrath of the Winter Soldier.
What's Awesome:

What's It About:

- Great competitive & witty dialog between Furry and Shen.
- The worm woman is outstanding and was handled very well with a nice blend of humor and terror.
- Great classic looking cover and art and story are crisp and fast paced.
What's Not Awesome:
- Nothing negative to say. This is an older book so it seems like this stand alone series had no lasting implications as you can buy all the books for below cover price.
Overall:
Great overall package and worth the price. If you are lucky try for the entire mini series as it has a great team of creators.
